I am an artist/illustrator/designer who at present, lives and works in Limerick.
I have always believed there is an intricate relationship between fine art and design, like many things, a dynamic between both disciplines compliment each other. It works. Everything becomes inspiration, music and the arts, nature and our relationships, the past, present and our uncertainties for the future. I have spent many years creating, and am particularly proud of my style which developed through life and experience. I am constantly striving to develop my work further.
My background lies in Fine Art, sculpture, which I studied from 1998-99 in Limerick School of Art and Design, before I decided to take some time off to travel and "grow", later returning to LSAD to complete a degree in Design Communications.
Having spent time travelling and recording experiences though photography, illustration and hoarding ticket stubs, a style emerged... Imagery from sketchbooks translated to larger individual boards where techniques combining the collage of photography, painting, illustration were used to create a finished piece. Work now spans across different media forms which includes digital and has been utilised in varied context.
My artwork has featured in London's Dazed and Confused Magazine Online Gallery through which I received commissions from Ditched Magazine (Shoreditch, UK). I've exhibited my work at various venues around the city, most recently "Collisions" Exhibition with artists David Slade and Niamh Ni Bhuigleir" in the Georgian House, Pery Square, Limerick. An exhibition where our individual styles Collide within the space..Work for this show was extremely personal.
"Journeys Through..." my solo exhibition held in "Thinkk Creative Gallery" Limerick 2008 which featured an entire collection of new pieces based on travel and memory. My style, predominant in each piece, is an attempt to capture the emotion and memories which arose from each place. Journeys Through incorporated imagery from Zagreb, Krakow/Zakopane, Spain, Montenegro etc as well as images from Ireland -Limerick/Clare.
I've also exhibited in group shows, namely "Travelogue 01" a collaboration with Graphic designer / Illustrator Carol Breen, held in Javas (upstairs/downstairs) which received a positive reviews in the press and also collaborated with local artists in "The Auction at the Spotted Dog" where proceeds from paintings were given to charity.
I constantly try to push the work further, experimenting with different mediums - incorporating the style into my graphic design work. This particularly work well for people who require more intuitive artwork. Over the last number of years, I have enjoyed creating artwork, particularly, for musicians/producers/poets & writers, Specializing in design for vinyl /cd covers/posters & publications.
